Everything seems fine until I unmount it (via Disk Utility or Finder) and I can then no longer mount it again. However, if I use the terminal via "sudo diskutil mount -mountPoint /tmp/Andromeda /dev/disk2s1" it does work and everything sees the volume. Specifically, the error "Could not mount “Andromeda”. But I always get an error when trying to mount it via the Disk Utility GUI. MacOS USB drive no longer auto-mounts So, I have a USB drive I have used for years and it suddenly does not mount anymore.

I've seen some other posts recommending Disk Warrior and other paid software solutions but I'm not sure they will be of any help. When I open the drive in Tuxera I get another error:Įrror while mounting disk4s1: Illegal byte sequence The drive shows up just as it does in Disk Utility– grayed out. So I decided to try Tuxera Disk Manager to hopefully access the files and move them to another drive. I noticed that the drive is recognized now as being formatted for Windows NT Filesystem (compressed). Obviously this is not good but I don't know what this error means. When I try to mount it I get an error:Ĭould not mount “Subsonic Temple”. When I open Disk Utility I can see the USB drive but it's grayed out. When I got home and tried to read this publication I could not mount the external SSD.

I did exactly what was instructed in HWTech's answer, which is quoted below. The disk is unmounted and when you try to mount, it says: error 49223.ģ. Now the disk doesn't show up in Finder but still in Disk Utility.
The disk worked perfectly with PC, but when it comes to Mac.ġ.Connect Seagate hard disk to Mac, warning popped up and said something like the disk is Read-only and erasing the disk for proper use.Ģ.Went ahead and erase.
